WHEN A CONCUSSION IS SUSPECTED

If you’ve taken a blow to the head, along with notifying your coach or a friend, what are some next steps you should take? We put together this checklist for you

*Remove yourself from play whether your coach or other players agree.

*Make sure you’re evaluated by a certified health care professional as soon as possible. Do not rely on someone who is not a medical professional to judge the severity of your possible concussion.

*Ask whoever is with you to record the following information: cause of injury, force of blow to the head, any loss of consciousness & length of time, any seizures immediately following the hit to the head, number, if any, of previous concussions.

*Notify parent or guardian immediately, and make sure they have a copy of the information recorded and the contact information of anyone who evaluated you.

*Stay out of play until a doctor experienced in head injuries says you are symptom free and can resume your sport.

A repeat concussion that happens before your brain recovers from the first one can increase the risk of long-term problems, resulting in permanent brain damage or even death. Know the facts!
